MICHAEL JORDAN

Counselor

Michael was born way up in the mountains in Spruce Pine, NC and his parents moved him and his three siblings to the Hickory area (Longview) in 1966 and he has lived in this area ever since. Michael was very fortunate and met and eventually married his wife, Kim in 1985 and she is the best thing that could have ever happened to him. They have lived in the Newton area since 1988.  They have two of the most wonderful children (adult children) and they are married and living in North Carolina as well. Their daughter, Alexa, her husband Will and their child (his granddaughter) Vienna Claire, live in Charlotte. Their son, Stefan and his wife, Anna, reside in Sherrills Ford.

For most of his life he has always worked at the Timken Company factory in Iron Station, NC in tool and gage control. After asking Jesus into his life in 1988, he began looking for how he could be used for His glory. After much prayer and good counsel, he began attending Lenoir-Rhyne University and received his BA in psychology and his MA in community mental health counseling in 2012. He is currently a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor.  He has been involved with intensive in-home therapy, school based therapy, individual, group and family therapy, couples and marriage therapy and chid and adolescent therapy. He has volunteered as a chaplain and a bereavement counselor for Catawba Valley Medical Center and Carolina Caring (formerly Hospice) working with individuals and their families as they transition from this life to the next.

His hobbies include playing basketball (hey, with a name like his, he has to play basketball), reading, working out, playing with his dog, Ruby and traveling to various places around the world. His hope is that he can be used by God through Discovery Counseling Center to assist people in their struggles with mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, past trauma, relationship issues and in recognizing their value and full potential in the Kingdom of God.
