9/28 The Big Day
We are getting ready for September 22nd. Between the 22nd and 25th you will see the construction fencing go up and completely change the way we use the campus.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE talk to your groups about what they can expect on Sunday 9/28 when they pull onto the campus! I believe there will be three major things they will need to remember:
- The main (northernmost) entrance will no longer be usable. It will be a gated construction entrance that will be locked. Anyone who turns in will have to pull back out onto Startown Road.
- The “CONSTRUCTION ZONE” shown below will be enclosed with a fencing system and no one is allowed in that area. This space will be under the control and legal responsibility of the builder.
- Everyone will have to enter the church at the new double doors we installed a few months ago. They can walk up to the lobby or continue into the sanctuary through the new double doors.
I know this will be disorienting and possibly frustrating for some people for the first few weeks as we learn to use our campus in a new way. Our clear and confident communication can really help to alleviate those frustrations. Please let me know what feedback, concerns, or questions you are getting so that we can focus on providing clear communication with everyone.
A Drew Sighting!
I had to share this image with you. That is our very own Drew Grounds walking through a construction area. I felt like I had caught a glimpse of Big Foot or something! Good times. 🙂
Work Behind the Roseman House
Below I have a short video for you. This was early in the week as the crew was removing four of the six trees. Now I want you to know, this video may not seem that impressive to you…but I was in the Roseman House when that thing came down. I am not exaggerating when I say that the earth shook and the doors rattled. WOW!
Two of the trees were removed as part of the expansion of Lot F (in the background) and the other two were removed to open the backyard for overflow/event parking when. needed.
The Facilities Building is Complete
Our new Facilities Building is not only complete but Chase has been hard at work organizing golf carts, people movers, some new tool boxes, and all of the tools we have had spread all over the campus. This was a lot more work than you might think. We had stuff spread out everywhere and it took weeks to locate it, clean it up, organize it all, and get it back into service. This new building will help Chase to effectively steward our campus as well as provide an effective and efficient location to store, maintain, and charge our fleet of golf carts for our Shuttle Team. This really is something Discovery has needed for many years. It is a real blessing to have it in place. While more is going to move into the space the main focus now is to help Chase make sure it stays put together and clean.
