At Discovery, everything we do is about helping people discover life in Jesus and reflect His love to the world. As our church continues to grow, we’re expanding our campus to make room for more people to encounter God’s presence, hear His Word, and be part of a thriving, Christ-centered community.
This is an exciting season for our church family! The construction of our new sanctuary is not just about adding space. It’s about creating more opportunities to serve, to worship, and to reach our neighbors with the hope of the Gospel. This map is an overview of what's happening soon with the Discovery Church Building Project. We will keep this page updated with progress and important changes that may affect your visit to Discovery Church.
Portico
Portico Demolition Begins July 7 – The covered entrance on the backside of the building will be removed. That entrance will be closed during demolition. We’ll keep you updated in the Discovery Church app with which entrances to use each week.
Loop Road
Loop Road Now Open – Our new loop road is complete! This will help ease traffic during busy times and make getting on and off campus smoother.
Facilities Building
The Facilities Building is now complete. It will house golf carts, long-term storage items, and the maintenance team's workshop. The Facilities Building will centralize and streamline many of our operational needs.
Storage Barn at the Roseman House Removal
The barn is scheduled for tear down and removal within the next two weeks. This step is necessary to make room for the fire access road. This is an important piece to comply with the City of Hickory requirements as part of the larger construction plan.
Tent Installations for Shuttle Waiting Areas
We've ordered two large 15x30 tents to create shuttle waiting areas in Lot E. The tents will have benches for seating once they are installed. These will be going up within the next week.
Common Construction Questions
Before we officially break ground, there are a few important updates and smaller improvements and changes happening around Discovery to get everything ready. We’re excited to share that we’re aiming to begin construction this September! We can’t wait to take this next big step together.

Don’t worry – parking is still available for everyone! Our trained parking team will be onsite to guide you right where you need to go. We also have golf carts and people movers ready to shuttle folks, especially those parked in Lot E, which is the farthest from the church entrance. Throughout construction, we’ll keep you updated if anything changes, and our parking team will always be on hand to help make your arrival as smooth as possible.
Because parking will be a bit more challenging as we grow, we recommend arriving a little earlier than usual. It might take some extra time to find a spot, catch a shuttle, grab a coffee or water, and get settled before worship starts. Giving yourself those extra minutes will help you feel relaxed and ready to enjoy the service.
Yes, the entrances will change eventually, but not right away. We’ll make sure to give you plenty of notice before any changes happen. Plus, we’ll have clear signs and welcoming greeters at every entrance to help you find your way easily.
