You may recall that about a year ago we started using room #4 at 11am to care for children who had attended Kid’s ministry at the 9am service and didn’t want to attend a second time and for whatever reason were unable to sit through the worship service with their parents. For quite awhile this program averaged 10-12 children each week. At the beginning of the summer two things happened. First, many of the children in that group moved up to middle school and as such were now in youth ministry. Second, the 8am service was added which spread the children out between services and in some cases they were able to start attending service with their parents for the first time.
As a result of the volunteers were serving no more than three children and none of them attended consistently. The volunteers were often in the room with no children and it doesn’t take too many times of coming to serve and not being needed before you become rightfully frustrated. As a result we all agreed that the ministry opportunity had run its course and it is now time to discontinue it and allow the volunteers to move into other areas of service. The kid’s ministry is reaching out to the parents of the few remaining children and seeing how they can move forward serving their children’s needs.
