Construction & Building Updates

Building Great Things Together

A River Not a Pond: Reflecting Jesus

We’re called to be like a flowing river—warm, welcoming, and always reaching out—never a still pond. Our growth is about genuinely connecting with people, meeting them where they are, and creating a loving community where everyone feels at home. Together, we’re building a place that reflects Jesus’ heart and invites all to belong and grow.

Keep checking here for updates and ways to be part of the growth of Discovery Church!

The Big Day! Sunday 9/28!

We are getting ready for September 22nd. Between the 22nd and 25th you will see the construction fencing go up and completely change the way we use the campus.

Major things they will need to remember:

The main (northernmost) entrance from Startown Road will no longer be usable. It will be a gated construction entrance that will be locked. Anyone who turns in will have to pull back out onto Startown Road.

The “CONSTRUCTION ZONE” will be enclosed with a fencing system and no one is allowed in that area. This space will be under the control and legal responsibility of the builder. Everyone will have to enter the church at the new double doors we installed a few months ago. They can walk up to the lobby or continue into the sanctuary through the new double doors.

New Parking Lot

Lot G is now open and will be used on Sunday mornings to replace the parking lost from the Construction Zone. (Larger Map Above)

Facilities Building Complete

Our new Facilities Building is not only complete but Chase has been hard at work organizing golf carts, people movers, some new tool boxes, and all of the tools we have had spread all over the campus. This was a lot more work than you might think. We had stuff spread out everywhere and it took weeks to locate it, clean it up, organize it all, and get it back into service. This new building will help Chase to effectively steward our campus as well as provide an effective and efficient location to store, maintain, and charge our fleet of golf carts for our Shuttle Team. This really is something Discovery has needed for many years. It is a real blessing to have it in place. While more is going to move into the space the main focus now is to help Chase make sure it stays put together and clean.

Common Construction Questions

When Is The Official Ground Breaking?

Before we officially break ground, there are a few important updates and smaller improvements and changes happening around Discovery to get everything ready. We’re excited to share that we’re aiming to begin construction this September! We can’t wait to take this next big step together.

If I Have A Question, Who Do I Ask?

If you have any more questions, we’d love to hear from you! Just send us an email at building@discoverychurchhickory.com.

Your message will go straight to our Building Committee, and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.

How Can I Get Involved?

We’re so glad you asked!

Volunteering is our biggest need right now, and there are many ways to get involved:

  • Greeting
  • SWAT – setup/teardown
  • Parking
  • Ushering
  • Coffee Bar
  • Shuttle Team – driving & communicators
  • Welcome Team – visitor tents and welcome desk

You can sign up online on our website or call the church office. Your help creates a warm, welcoming community where everyone belongs.

Where Do I Park During Construction?

Don’t worry – parking is still available for everyone! Our trained parking team will be onsite to guide you right where you need to go. We also have golf carts and people movers ready to shuttle folks, especially those parked in Lot E, which is the farthest from the church entrance. Throughout construction, we’ll keep you updated if anything changes, and our parking team will always be on hand to help make your arrival as smooth as possible.

Should I Arrive Early During Construction?

Because parking will be a bit more challenging as we grow, we recommend arriving a little earlier than usual. It might take some extra time to find a spot, catch a shuttle, grab a coffee or water, and get settled before worship starts. Giving yourself those extra minutes will help you feel relaxed and ready to enjoy the service.

Are The Church Entrances Going To Change?

Yes, the entrances will change eventually, but not right away. We’ll make sure to give you plenty of notice before any changes happen. Plus, we’ll have clear signs and welcoming greeters at every entrance to help you find your way easily.

What Is The Phone Number For The Construction Hotline?

We keep the construction hotline updated at least once a week—and even more often if there’s important news to share. For the latest updates, please call 704-800-4907. We’re committed to keeping you informed every step of the way!
