Romans 1:24–28 NIV
24 Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25 They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen. 26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. 27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error. 28 Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done.

Consider This:
• What does it mean to be homophobic?
• How is it defined?
• Are you homophobic?

Consider This:
• What is being condemned in this passage?
• How many times is the phrase “God gave them over” used in this passage?
• What do you think that phrase means?
• What does God give them over too?
• Why does God give them over? See Romans 1:28.

1 Corinthians 6:9–11 NIV
9 Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men 10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

Consider This:
• Is “attraction” or “action” being condemned in these passages?
• Read 1Corinthians 6:9-11. This passage states that some of the people in Corinth have given up practicing homosexuality. Do you think this is a fair thing to ask of someone with “same sex” attractions?
• How does this compare to the restriction’s places on Adam/Eve?
• Do you think it is a fair to ask someone with “opposite sex” attraction to restrict sexual activity to marriage?
• Is God asking you to do something in your life that you don’t want to do or to not do something that you want to do?
• Is this restriction offensive to you?

Consider This:
• There is a difference between being an American and being a Christian. Being American is about the “will” of the people. What is Christianity about?
• If Christianity is about the “will” of God, do we need to understand His will before we submit to it?
• Was the reasoning for God’s will explained to Adam and Eve?

1 Timothy 1:10 NIV
10 for the sexually immoral, for those practicing homosexuality, for slave traders and liars and perjurers—and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine

Consider This:
• This passage is offensive to many 21st century ears. Why is it offensive?
• Is Paul arrogant in writing this restriction?
• See 1Timothy 1:10. What does God want for his people?
• What does God want for you?
